H.R. 218: LEAA Working for Your Views
Washington, D.C., July, 2002

COP CARRY BILL HEARING: LEAA Life Member and Cedar Rapids, Iowa Deputy Chief of Police, David Johnson (right) testified in support of S.2480 (the Senate companion bill to H.R. 218) before the Senate Judiciary Committee in July, 2002.

Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham said the measure, which is identical to H.R. 218, would add a large number of trained, armed law enforcement officers on the streets providing a greater deterrent to crime.

Rep. Cunningham thanked Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy for introducing the Senate version of the measure and for holding hearings on it, which is something House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner has thus far refused to do. Law enforcement officials from the Fraternal Order of Police and the Federal Law Enforcement Officer's Association joined Johnson in delivering supportive testimony (below).
