Letter to Senator Ben Campbell Senator Ben Campbell Dear Senator Campbell, The Law Enforcement Alliance of America (LEAA) has long been a supporter of your efforts to provide government support for law enforcement officers and agencies acquisition of life-saving body armor. We are proud to continue that support of your efforts by offering our endorsement for the Officer Dale Claxton Bulletproof Police Protective Equipment Act, S. 1065. As you well know, soft body armor worn by law enforcement officers is just one element of ballistic protection technology available to law enforcement today. Recent advances in technology allow departments to outfit police vehicles with windshields that are quite effective in protecting officers from a variety of ballistic threats. Your legislation would enable far more departments at the state, county and municipal level to acquire such protective technologies for their men and women in law enforcement. Further, your legislation directs aid to those agencies with the greatest need by giving preference to agencies that have a shortage in protective equipment, excessive violent crime rates or a limited history of receiving previous federal assistance grants. LEAA is proud to offer our support for your legislation and will be expressing our support to your colleagues and educating our members and the public about this life-saving issue. On behalf of the more than 75,000 members and supporters of the Law Enforcement Alliance of America, I would like to offer you our continued thanks for your steadfast support of law enforcement, and most notably for your efforts to secure passage of law enforcements top legislative priority, the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2003. Sincerely, James J. Fotis
